10th stop apparently .... PTBC event at Tolworth using the PTBC classic format. 6 games 1st round, cut then 4 games 2nd round, then cut for a round robin final. How many turned up ? - Well 38 men and 15 ladies. We started with 38 men but Steve Miller pulled out early (so his boyfriend told me !) - Steve actually turned up with no balls and a pair of shoes he had stolen, forgetting that his bowling gear was in the boot of his 'other' car. So had started playing with is brothers balls (oh er,,,,, seriously this is turning into a script for 'carry on skittling') and then after 3 frames decided that if was all too much for him and called it a day. Last years event i think was played on the mexico pattern or the hong kong pattern or some grizzly horrible shit and it was gnarly tough ... probably the hardest i've ever played on. This year it was the 35ft beijing flatter then a dead headhog pattern - and it was nails.... but not as nails as last year. For me the only time i got any bounce was off board 1 ... so gutter balls were a plenty. I had 4 gutter balls after spares which if i had just hit the frigging pins i probably would have made the round robin final... but then if my aunty had bolloxs she would be my uncle, you know what i mean.

Round 1 then..... there were only 6 men over. In third was Ray Teece on 1244 a 207 average. In 2nd was jamie Bottomley who finished off his block with a 257-290 for a 1265 a 210.3 average - but way out in front with a great score of 1351 a 225 average was Chris Oates. The cut to the 2nd round was the top 26 set by weasel ferret boy Lee Miller with a score of 1047 a 174.5 average. Ladies 1st round then.... and there 3 bowlers who shot over par... Top of the tree was Hayley White on 1284 a 214 average, in 2nd was Danni Hopcroft on 1255 and in 3rd was Lisa JohnS on 1226 - the cut was the top 10 which was Angie Brown on 1067 a 177.8.

YOGI.... wow there were plenty of them... Steve for turning up to a bowling tournament with out any bowling balls has to be considered. James Footner was involved in a battle of the WALES with Stu Chamberlain ... James lost out - missing the cut on 1007 whilst the new Welsh No 1 Stu Chamberlain finished round 1 in the dizzy heights of 17th. But the YOGI has to go James Tidd who finished in 32nd after opening up with a 419 for his first 3 and a 964 set over his block of 6.

Round 2 was interesting - and if you could just stay out of trouble and keep the ball in play and then actually spare the stuff you left, escape with 4 reasonably modest games you could jump up the field... there were only 3 men to shot over par in this block - Jamie Bottomley went and had a 300 for a 901 total and the other two bowlers were all Poole Powerplay based - Chris Oates and Matt Chamberlain. In fact get this is for a stat.... there was only 7 bowlers who averaged over 190 in this block - perhaps they were as tough as last year ?

In the ladies - 2 bowlers pulled themselves over --- Kat MAC Iver shot an 806 and Jo Allsebrooke shot a 804.

Into the finals.... And for me this is a demonstration of what happens when good bowlers get together on a flat pattern. They all play the same part of the lane and smash the crap out of it - punching a hole and opening them up - but who was going to take full advantage. To me the title had to go to one of the powerplay boys - Oates or Bottomley, who had been miles ahead of the rest of the field. With 7 of the 10 bowlers finishing the tournament averaging over 200. Oates wants to claim his first title after so many top 3 placings.... but once again he had to settle for a bronze (its the fucking Olympics - and to be fair its the closest bowlings ever going to get to being in it.) Bottomley had the disadvantage of being left handed (YES i said DISADVANTAGE) being the only bowler meant he was unable break it down and it must have been his great bowling and the great match up that got him to 2nd place at the end. So who was it that won ??? - They must have gone some to win... well yes they did ! - it was RAY TEECE who in round 2 averaged just 171 - well in the final RAY went and averaged 251 with a 300 - and won 7 of his matches. An amazing performance in the round robin that saw Ray take the title by 131 pins.

In the ladies final - there was only really one bowler in it ... Hayley White had led from the start and won all her matches in the round robin and was the only lady to average over 200. Hayley took the title by 173 pins from Laura Ivory who had moved up into 2nd with Jo Allsebrooke in 3rd.
