The lane pattern for this tournament can be downloaded here

Right I'm going to have a crack at the report for the Fareham Trio's - the scores on the BTBA site are a bit all over the place..

First round was 6 games with the top 10 teams going through to the 2nd round - there was 45men and 12 ladies - so standardish entry these days for a ranking event. But not where you compare it to the tournament this has replaced - The scott banks trios - they would have attracted 100+men and 20+ ladies.

Anywho's lets crack on... After the first round its was the Powerplay 1 team (Bottomley, Oates, and Thornton) who combated the tricky Montreal pattern the best shooting 4022 a 223.44 average. They were a long way in front of the 2nd place team Mini Rolls (Lisa Johns - it is John'S isn't it ?, Hayley Rumkee, and Laura Ivory) who shot 3744 a 208 average but still 278 pins off first place. In third with 3719 were Monty's Magic Biscuit (Ray & Richie Teece and that northern hobbit Adam Cairns) . The cut to the top 10 was set by the Bowluk team (Annaleise Volkes, Dale Woodcock, Chris Volkes) with a score of 3451 a 191.72 average.

Team England Rankings were awarded on the individuals placing after the first 6 games - I thought there was a minimum amount games you had to have to decide ranking points - i thought it was 8, which a special exception made for the English Open - anyway as i said ranking points were awarded after the first 6 - In the men's it was Steve Thornton who got maximum points shooting 1433 a 238.8 average. In 2nd 82 pins back was Adam Purnell and in 3rd on 1341 a 223.5 average was weasel boy Lee Miller.

In the ladies the maximum was taken by Jo Allsebrooke - her third max in her come back year. Jo Shot 1271 a 211 average. In 2nd was Laura Ivory and in 3rd was Jenny Billingham on 1220

Now for the YOGi's - the Montreal pattern and the short 6 game format caught out some bowlers. Richie teece and Rob Thurlby 20th and 21st, John Wells's 300 form deserted him shooting 1119 a 186.50 average. Then of course I can't do the YOGI section without mentioning Chatters. Lee Chatfield - who said it was easy to make the top 12 you just had to turn up .... had another disappointment finishing in 29th. But I'm going to give the YOGI to Matt Miller who had a 129 last game that saw him finish in 28th. I don't know if all the weight matt's lost has affected his bowling. I've seen it before with bowlers. You just have to recapture your timing, and i'm sure Matt will re-capture his form in time for the next event.  Plus it can't help bowling when your starving hungry all the time - just ask Cocker.

Right round 2 - which was just 2 games with the teams cutting to the top 6 - - - The power play team continued to lead, with Monty's Magic Biscuit 2nd and the all girl team Mini Rolls in 3rd - the cut to the final 6 was set by the Legally bowled team (Jenny Billingham, Laura Marcham, and Jo Allsebrooke) on 4711 a 196.29 average.

The top 6 teams then played another 2 games with the top 4 teams going through - The top three places remained the same, but they were joined in the final by the Sultans of Swing (Matt Miller,  Adam Purnell and Damian Gray) on 6058 a 201.9 average.

Now on to the final - and by looking at the BTBA site, and having not played this tournament - i can't work out what the hell the format was. I'm wouldn't be surprised if most of the players didn't know what the format was either. I think 1st played 4th and 2nd played 3rd. The winners going through to compete in the finals the losers playing for 3rd and 4th places. So the Powerplay team played 4th place Sultans of Swing who they were miles ahead of. But its was now just a 1 game shoot off - The Sultans of Swing shot a modest 552, and the Powerplay team of Thornton, Bottomley, and Oates probably all had their lowest games of the tournament and they lost with a 549. In the other Match the Magic Biscuits shot a low 533, and the girls - Rumkee, Ivory and John'S despatched them with a 583.

The 3rd and 4th place shoot out between the Magic Biscuits and the Powerplay team - went the way of the Magic Biscuits who shot 648 to Powerplays 543 - tough on the Powerplay team who probably had this tournament won on overall pinfall - but that's life... its a bitch !

The title match between Sultans of the Swing and the Mini Rolls. The girls were always going to spare everything to death, but would they be able to throw enough strikes. They all shot games in the 180's and with their 'birds bonus' they had a 571 game. So it was down to the Purnell, White Socks, and Miller - they all held it together to shot 200+ games for a 633 team game

Well done to the Sultans of Swing (AKA team virgin) !
